about

This song is a portrait of a city that was once named ugliest in the world. I didn't know this when I was passing through roughly a year ago. What struck me about Charleroi was a feeling of desolation, and unfinishedness. Half the city seemed to be imprisoned behind building sites.

I did stay in an apartment for one night that overlooked the city. It did not overlook a dual carriageway; rather it’s the great winding motorway that brings you into the city. The bus stops just on the overside of a bridge that takes you into town. On your way across the bridge you’re met with commerical construction (Hera) fencing, unkempt roadside weeds and foliage, and huge concrete buildings, and this palpable feeling of inherent threat, danger and sadness.

Naturally I thought, that's beautiful

lyrics

I’m but a husk of a shell
A photograph of a shadow
A whispered shout in a snowy mountain pass
The space between the white lines on the road

I am dusk leaning upon green hills
Spilling into concrete waves
Against the will of fleeting time

Pause for a moment and consider
It, unfortunately, is only the highway breathing
Coupled with the brightening and
Dimming of the lights

On the beyond side of Hera’s fencing
Stucco towers above the Sambre
Gilly chases down the slag heap
Spoil tip clambers above the Sambre

In St. Hubert’s enormous corridor
I am a photograph of a shadow
A latent, damning thing

Presenting the misadventures of a miniature deep-sea diver fishbowl figurine.

I don't know that there's room in music for a lounge act fronted by an inch high, ethereal deep sea diver with a preoccupation for vocoders and additive synthesis; but if there is, I intend to fill it with the gaudiest of cutting edge Vaporwave elevator-jingles. ... more
